NaNoWriMo: November is Only the Beginning
Dates: October 13th-17th, 2008
Instructor: Cheryl St. John
Cost: FREE to FTHRW
members; $10.00 for all others
Registration Deadline: October 8, 2008
Course Description:
Agents and editors dread the end of November and the
flood of hastily written 50,000 word books resulting from
NaNoWriMo month. Along about October, "Can we just
strangle them now?" is their question regarding writers
who submit ill-prepared manuscripts. After a discussion
with her agent, Cheryl St. John got the idea for her October
workshop. She will give an overview of the
NaNoWriMo objective and show writers that there is far
more to submitting a manuscript than hastily written pages.
First impressions are all-important, and the impression you make
with your submission package should be one of a professional. You
don't want editors to cringe; you want them to sit
up and take notice. Cheryl will share self-editing techniques
to make your story shine.
About the Instructor:
Cheryl St. John is the author of over thirty Harlequin and
Silhouette books. Her first book, RAIN SHADOW was nominated
for RWA's RITA for Best First Book, by Romantic Times for
Best Western Historical, and by Affaire de Coeur readers as
Best American Historical Romance. Her 2005 HH, HIS SECONDHAND
WIFE, earned another RITA nod. HH LAND OF DREAMS, SSE
THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, and HH PRAIRIE WIFE each won RT's Reviewers
Choice Awards. Many of her Special Editions made Waldenbooks
Top Ten and HH BIG SKY BRIDES anthology climbed to #35 on
the NYT list. In describing her stories of second chances
and redemption, readers and reviewers use words like emotional
punch, hometown feel, core values, believable characters and
real life situations.
